The weather starts getting colder, the leaves are changing color and you’re reaching for your coziest sweater instead of your favorite pair of sandals. Fall is a time when everything starts to slowly change, so what does this mean for your skin?
As the colder months start rolling in, you may notice some changes in how your skin feels. Your skin, which was naturally oily and seemingly normal all summer long, might instead begin feeling dry and sensitive. You might then ask yourself, “So if my skin changes so much during the cooler months, does that mean my skincare routine should change as well?”
The answer is…. Yes!
This doesn’t mean you need to ditch all your favorite and trusted skincare products as soon as the first leaf falls, but adding or reducing one or two products could really benefit your skin!
Here are some suggestions from our Reclaim skincare specialists:
Add a Heavier Moisturizer That is Suitable for Your Skin
If you moisturize every day and it doesn’t seem to be as effective anymore, try switching to a heavier moisturizer!
If you use a gel moisturizer, try a lightweight facial lotion like SkinMedica’s Ultra Sheer Moisturizer or Éminence Organic’s Calm Skin Chamomile Moisturizer.
If you prefer a heavier facial lotion, try SkinMedica’s TNS Ceramide Treatment Cream or Éminence Organic’s Monoi Age Corrective Night Face & Neck Cream.
Add a Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant and can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water within your skin cells. This is great to add to any skincare routine for extra hydration and a glowy look!
Try the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum or the Firm Skin Acai Booster-Serum, both by Éminence Organic.
Add a Facial Oil
Not only do facial oils smell and feel great, but they also do wonders for your skin! They are designed to heal, soothe and hydrate your skin on a deeper level.
Worried about a facial oil being too heavy? Don’t worry — we have a variety of finishes:
- For a lightweight finish, try Éminence Organic’s Wildflower Ultralight Oil.
- For a medium finish and anti-bacterial properties, try Éminence Organic’s Facial Recovery Oil.
- For a heavy, soothing and healing finish, try Éminence Organic’s Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil. Designed specifically for eczema and severe dry skin, this oil will heal and soothe your skin in no time!
Reduce Retinol Use
If you’re used to using a form of retinol every day and notice your skin is dry, red and/or irritated, try reducing this product to every other night, or every 3 nights, depending on your skin needs.
Looking for a good retinol? Try one from SkinMedica or the natural alternative, Bamboo Firming Fluid by Éminence Organic.
Reduce Exfoliant Products
While exfoliating your skin is very important, try reducing the number of times you exfoliate during a week. If you notice your skin is becoming drier, try switching from 3-4 times/week to 1-3 times/week. It’s important to keep your skin properly hydrated all throughout the year!
Looking for a gentle exfoliant suitable for cooler weather? Try Éminence Organic’s Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser or SkinMedica’s AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser.
Add Regular Facials
Getting professional facial treatments help to remove the top layer of dead skin cells resulting in brighter skin and your skincare products being able to penetrate deeper. All of our facials at Reclaim Medical Aesthetics are completely customizable and everything is chosen based on your unique skin needs!
