Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Jeuveau™ otherwise known as “NewTox” is derived from the purified form of Botulinum toxin A. It is the first product of its kind to hit the market in the United States in almost 10 years.
Jeuveau™ is a neuromodulator. It’s designed to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause those wrinkles. Think for a second about smiling, laughing, frowning, squinting, and furrowing your brow. You probably do each of those actions more times every day than you can count, often without realizing you’re doing them.
Over time, these repetitive, unconscious actions cause facial wrinkles. Smiling and laughing give you laugh lines. Squinting gives you crow’s feet. Furrowing your brow and frowning give you glabellar lines and forehead wrinkles.
Jeuveau™ works by targeting the muscles that control the actions that cause these wrinkles. When you perform any of those actions, your brain sends a signal through your nervous system to your muscles. Your muscles receive the signal, then do what your brain tells them to. Jeuveau™ blocks that signal from reaching your muscles.

- Set up a long-term treatment plan. Having injections regularly will keep your muscles and skin smooth, preventing “rebound wrinkles.”
- Follow proper aftercare protocol.
- Avoid vigorously scrub or massage your face for 24 hours after having BOTOX® or Jeuveau injections.
- Avoid having skin tightening or laser treatments that heat the skin for at least 3 days after the injection, as heat can make the medicine less effective.
- Avoid vigorous exercise for 24 hours post treatment.
- Stay out of the sun. Sunlight doesn’t destroy BOTOX® or Jeuveau, but it does speed up the aging process. Sunlight breaks down collagen and elastin, making the skin thinner, weaker, and more prone to developing new wrinkles.
- Prepare for your treatment correctly. To decrease the risk of bruising, you should avoid alcohol the day before or blood thinners for about two weeks before having Botox or Jeuveau injections (or any other cosmetic injections).
Repeated BOTOX® or Jeuveau injections every three to four months may gradually train targeted muscles to remain in a more relaxed state, making results potentially more long lasting.
